At the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour remained tense until the last minute. In a close contest between Scottish Calum Hill, American Patrick Reed, and German Freddy Schott, the German ultimately triumphed in a thrilling final-day playoff. This victory marks Schott’s first on the DP World Tour, catapulting him to 9th place in the Race to Dubai, jumping 94 positions.
Trio Shares Lead After Final Round
All three players finished Sunday tied at 17 under par atop the leaderboard. Schott improved on his previous round with a 69, featuring four birdies on the front nine but a bogey on hole 8. His back nine was solid despite a double bogey at hole 11, ending with three birdies and one bogey for a three-under-par round.
American Patrick Reed posted a 67, five under par, with seven birdies and two bogeys, nearly matching his best round of 66 from the day before.
Scottish Calum Hill had a one-under-par 71 on the final day. Thanks to an earlier 61 on Friday, he maintained a high leaderboard position despite his final round struggles, which included five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey.
DP World Tour: Freddy Schott Triumphs in Dramatic Playoff
The playoff began with Schott making par. Reed bogeyed with five strokes, while Hill matched Schott’s par, forcing another hole. On the second playoff hole, Hill scored a seven and was eliminated. Schott held steady with even par to secure the win.
Spanish golfer Sergio García, who led the leaderboard multiple times during the tournament, finished the final day with a 68 and shared fourth place with New Zealander Daniel Hillier, both finishing at 16 under par.
