DP World Tour: Freddy Schott wins first title in playoff thriller

Nerve-wracking finish in Bahrain: Freddy Schott wins the playoff against Reed and Hill, celebrating his first DP World Tour victory and moving up to 9th in the Race to Dubai.

At the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship of the DP World Tour remained thrilling until the very last moment. In a strong head-to-head race between Scot Calum Hill, American Patrick Reed and German golfer Freddy Schott, the German eventually prevailed in a nerve-racking playoff on the final day. This victory marks Schott’s first triumph on the DP World Tour. His success catapults the Düsseldorf native to 9th place in the Race to Dubai standings, climbing 94 spots.

Three-way tie at the top after final round

All three players finished Sunday with a score of 17 under par, sharing the lead on the leaderboard. Freddy Schott improved by one shot compared to the previous day with a 69. He shined on the front nine with four birdies but had a bogey on the 8th hole. His back nine was solid overall despite a double bogey on hole 11. Three additional birdies and another bogey resulted in a final round of three under par.

American Patrick Reed finished with a 67, five under par, recording seven birdies and two bogeys. This score was close to his best previous round of 66 on Saturday.

Scot Calum Hill posted a 71, one under par, placing him high on the leaderboard thanks to his earlier 61 on Friday. However, his competitors capitalized on his Saturday struggles to catch up. Five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey on the final day were not enough for a solo win at the Royal Golf Club.

DP World Tour: Dramatic playoff decision in favor of Freddy Schott

The playoff began with Freddy Schott making par. Patrick Reed scored a bogey with five strokes. Calum Hill also made par with four strokes, forcing a second playoff hole. On the second playoff hole, Hill scored seven strokes on the par-4, eliminating his chance for victory. Freddy Schott played even par to clinch the tournament win.

Spanish player Sergio García, who led the leaderboard multiple times during the tournament, finished the fourth round with a 68 and tied for fourth place along with New Zealander Daniel Hillier, both at 16 under par.
