Schott Fights for Top Spot on Moving Day of DP World Tour in Bahrain

Freddy Schott battled on day three of the DP World Tour in Bahrain to take the lead going into the final day. With a flawless front nine and four birdies, he took the lead early from front-runner Calum Hill. Hill lost his two-stroke advantage quickly on the first six holes, with three bogeys and just one birdie. Schott first leveled the scores with birdies on holes 3 and 5 and extended his lead with precise approach shots and confident putts on 8 and 9.

However, he had to accept bogeys on holes 12 and 13. Tied again with Hill, both players birdied 14 to reach a temporary total score of -15. Calum Hill reclaimed the lead with a birdie on 15, while Schott was unable to mount a decisive attack and suffered another unfortunate bogey on 18. Hill enters the final day with a two-stroke lead (-16) over Schott (-14).

After the round, the German said: ‘I’m a bit disappointed about the three-putt on the last hole but it was a good day. We just keep doing what we have done so far. I thought it might take two days to catch him (Hill). He had some trouble on the first holes and suddenly we were tied. I still follow the plan to catch him tomorrow and I am looking forward to it. It would be great if it works out but it’s still a bit early to think about it.’

International Contenders Increase Pressure

Close behind Hill and Schott lurk international contenders, including last week’s winner, Patrick Reed. The American, who announced his departure from LIV Golf and his comeback to the PGA Tour in the summer before the tournament, started the third round brilliantly.
