Schott fights for the lead on moving day of DP World Tour in Bahrain

Freddy Schott battled for the lead on day three of the DP World Tour in Bahrain. With a flawless front nine and four birdies, he took the lead early from leader Calum Hill, who had lost his two-stroke advantage with three bogeys and only one birdie through six holes. Schott caught up with birdies on holes 3 and 5 and extended his lead with further successes on holes 8 and 9, thanks to precise approach shots and solid putting.

However, on holes 12 and 13, Schott had to accept bogeys. Level again with Hill, both players birdied 14 to reach a temporary overall score of -15. Hill then regained the lead with another birdie on 15, while Schott could not mount a decisive attack and recorded an unfortunate bogey on 18. Hill goes into the final day with a two-shot lead (-16) over Schott (-14).

After the round, Schott said: ‘I’m a bit disappointed about the three-putt on the last hole but it was a good day. We just do what we have done so far. I thought it might take a couple of days to catch him (Hill). He had some trouble early on and suddenly we were tied. I still plan to catch him tomorrow and am looking forward to it. It would be great if it works out but it’s a bit early to think about that.’

International contenders increase the pressure

Close behind Hill and Schott, international contenders, including last week’s winner Patrick Reed, are lurking. The American, who announced his departure from LIV Golf and his return to the PGA Tour this summer before the tournament, started the third round strongly.
