Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong rounds on Saturday to move into contention at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem played excellent rounds to position themselves well for the final day. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to climb into a tie for ninth, while Siem shot a four-under 68 to sit T14 heading into Sunday. The tournament is currently led by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard, both at 16-under-par. Gerard impressed with a standout 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem rallies late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round on Saturday to break into the top 10. He opened his birdie account on the 4th hole and followed up with two more on 5 and 6. After another birdie on 8, his only blemish came on the 9th, where he made bogey—his third in as many days on that hole. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added birdies on 12, 13, and 14 on the back nine to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on the 3rd hole. His back nine, however, brought momentum. After a bogey on 10, he caught fire with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. A bogey on 16 was offset by a closing birdie on 18, giving him a 68 and a share of 14th place with a chance for a strong finish.
Ryan Gerard fires 63 to share the lead
Ryan Gerard produced the round of the day with a sizzling nine-under 63. Despite a bogey on the 2nd hole, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go out in 33. The back nine was even more impressive, as Gerard rattled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped his round with a final birdie on 18, bringing his total to 10 birdies and vaulting him into a tie for the lead at 16-under.
