Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong rounds on Saturday at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, entering the final day in contention.
On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem played excellent rounds to position themselves well for Sunday’s final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to move up to T9, while Siem followed with a four-under 68 to sit at T14. South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard lead the field at 16-under-par, with Gerard firing a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a near-perfect round to break into the top 10. After opening with a birdie on hole 4, he followed up with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6. Another birdie on 8 set him up well, though he stumbled slightly with a bogey on 9—his only dropped shot of the day and the third consecutive bogey on that hole this week. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added birdies on 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and climb to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on hole 3 in the early going. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he responded with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. Despite a second bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to finish at 68. Sitting at T14, Siem remains in the hunt for a top finish.
Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie streak
The round of the day came from Ryan Gerard, who shot a nine-under 63 to grab a share of the lead. After an early bogey on hole 2, Gerard bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under at the turn. He then caught fire on the back nine with five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16, and capped off his round with a tenth birdie on 18 to join Jarvis atop the leaderboard.
