Schneider and Siem Climb Leaderboard at AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, heading into Sunday in strong positions.

At the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong performances on Saturday to move into contention for the final round. Schneider carded a six-under-par 66 to climb to T9, while Siem shot a 68 to sit at T14. South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard lead the tournament at 16 under par, with Gerard firing an exceptional 63.

DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late

Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. After his first birdie on hole 4, he followed up with two more on holes 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came on hole 8, but he dropped a shot on hole 9—his only bogey of the day and the third consecutive round he bogeyed that hole. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66.

Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on hole 3. After a bogey on hole 10, he caught fire with four straight birdies from holes 12 to 15. Despite another bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to finish with a 68. At T14, Siem remains in the hunt for a top finish.

Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie streak

Ryan Gerard posted the round of the day with a nine-under-par 63. After an early bogey on hole 2, he rebounded with birdies on holes 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three under on the front nine. The back nine was even more impressive, as Gerard rattled off five consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 16, and added a tenth birdie on hole 18 to tie for the lead.
