Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, heading into the final round in strong positions.
At the DP World Tour’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered standout performances on Saturday to position themselves well for the final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to move into a tie for ninth, while Siem shot a four-under 68 to sit tied for 14th. The tournament is currently led by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard, both at 16-under-par. Gerard’s round was particularly notable, as he fired a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. He opened his birdie account on the 4th hole and followed it up with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came on the 8th, with his only blemish of the day—a bogey—coming on the 9th, the same hole that troubled him in the previous two rounds. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and climb to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on the 3rd hole. His round picked up momentum on the back nine despite a bogey on 10. He then caught fire with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. After another bogey on 16, he closed strong with a birdie on 18 to finish with a 68, placing him T14 and still in contention for a top result.
Gerard’s birdie blitz puts him in the lead
Ryan Gerard delivered the round of the day with a nine-under 63. After a bogey on the 2nd hole, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under on the front nine. The back nine was even more impressive, as he rattled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off his round with a final birdie on the 18th, bringing his total to ten birdies for the day and vaulting him into a share of the lead.
