Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong rounds on Saturday to move into contention at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.
On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem made significant moves up the leaderboard. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to climb into a tie for ninth, while Siem posted a four-under 68 to sit tied for 14th heading into the final round. South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard share the lead at 16-under-par, with Gerard firing a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. After opening with a birdie on the 4th hole, he followed up with back-to-back birdies on 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came on the 8th, but the 9th hole continued to trouble him as he made his only bogey of the day—his third on that hole this week. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on the 3rd hole. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he caught fire with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. After a second bogey on 16, he closed strong with a final birdie on 18 to sign for a 68. At T14, Siem remains in the hunt for a top finish.
Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie streak
Ryan Gerard delivered the round of the day with a nine-under 63. Despite an early bogey on the 2nd, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go out in 33. On the back nine, Gerard caught fire with five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off his round with a tenth birdie on 18, vaulting him into a share of the lead at 16-under-par.
