Schneider and Siem Climb Leaderboard at AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open

Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem posted strong rounds on Saturday to move into contention at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open.

On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered impressive performances to position themselves well for Sunday’s final round. Schneider fired a six-under 66 to climb to T9, while Siem carded a four-under 68 to sit at T14. The lead is shared by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard, both at 16-under-par. Gerard dazzled with a round-of-the-day 63.

DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late

Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. He opened his birdie account on the 4th hole, then added two more on 5 and 6. After another birdie on the 8th, his only blemish came on the 9th—his third consecutive bogey on that hole this week. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on holes 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and move to T9.

Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on the 3rd as the only highlight on the front nine. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he bounced back with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. After a second bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to sign for a 68. At T14, Siem remains in the hunt for a strong finish.

Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie blitz

Ryan Gerard produced the round of the day with a scorching 63. Despite a bogey on the 2nd, he recovered quickly with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under at the turn. The back nine was electric, as Gerard reeled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off the round with a final birdie on 18 to join Casey Jarvis atop the leaderboard at 16-under-par.
