Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Saturday at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, heading into the final round in strong positions.
On Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered standout performances to climb the leaderboard. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to move into a tie for 9th place, while Siem’s four-under 68 put him in T14 heading into Sunday. At the top, South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard share the lead at 16-under-par, with Gerard firing a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider produced a near-flawless round to break into the top 10. After his first birdie on hole 4, he followed up with two more on 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came at the 8th, before his only blemish of the day—a bogey on the 9th, the same hole that troubled him on the previous two days. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on the back nine (holes 12, 13, and 14) to finish with a 66.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on hole 3. A bogey on 10 set him back, but he responded with a brilliant stretch of four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. Despite another bogey on 16, he closed with a birdie on 18 to sign for a 68. At T14, Siem remains in contention for a strong finish.
Ryan Gerard’s birdie blitz earns share of lead
Ryan Gerard delivered the round of the day with a nine-under 63. After an early bogey on hole 2, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under on the front nine. The back nine was even more impressive, as he rattled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off his round with a final birdie on 18, bringing his total to ten birdies and earning a share of the lead.
