Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem both impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open and head into the final round in strong positions.
At the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, German golfers Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong performances on Saturday to move into contention heading into the final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to climb into a tie for ninth, while Siem shot a 68 to sit tied for 14th. The tournament is currently led by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard, both at 16-under-par. Gerard dazzled with a round-of-the-day 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider played a nearly flawless round to break into the top 10. After opening with a birdie on the 4th, he followed up with two more on holes 5 and 6. A fourth birdie came on the 8th, but the 9th hole once again proved tricky, as he made his only bogey of the day—his third in as many rounds on that hole. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added birdies on 12, 13, and 14 to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with an early birdie on the 3rd as his only highlight on the front nine. A bogey on the 10th set him back, but he responded with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. After a second bogey on 16, he closed strong with a birdie on 18 to finish with a 68, leaving him tied for 14th and still in the hunt for a top finish.
Ryan Gerard catches fire with birdie blitz
Ryan Gerard produced the round of the day with a sensational 63. Despite a bogey on the 2nd, he bounced back with birdies on 3, 5, 6, and 8 to go three-under on the front nine. The back nine was electric, as Gerard rattled off five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16. He capped off his round with a tenth birdie on the 18th, vaulting him into a share of the lead at 16-under-par.
