Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem impressed on Moving Day at the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, entering the final round in strong positions.
At the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour, both Marcel Schneider and Marcel Siem delivered strong performances on Saturday to move into contention ahead of the final round. Schneider carded a six-under 66 to climb to T9, while Siem shot a four-under 68 to reach T14. The tournament is currently led by South Africa’s Casey Jarvis and American Ryan Gerard, both at 16-under-par. Gerard posted the round of the day with a sensational 63.
DP World Tour: Schneider nearly flawless, Siem surges late
Marcel Schneider put together a near-flawless round to break into the top 10. After opening with a birdie on the 4th, he followed up with two more on the 5th and 6th. A fourth birdie came at the 8th, but the 9th hole continued to trouble him, yielding his only bogey of the day—his third bogey on that hole this week. Unfazed, the 35-year-old added three more birdies on the back nine (12, 13, 14) to finish with a 66 and move to T9.
Marcel Siem had a slower start, with a lone birdie on the 3rd. A bogey on the 10th set him back, but he caught fire with four consecutive birdies from holes 12 to 15. Despite a bogey on the 16th, he closed with a birdie on 18 to sign for a 68, putting him at T14 and within reach of a top finish.
Ryan Gerard’s birdie blitz leads the way
Ryan Gerard delivered the round of the day with a nine-under 63. After an early bogey on the 2nd, he rebounded with birdies on the 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th to go three-under at the turn. He then went on a tear with five straight birdies from holes 12 to 16, and capped off his round with a final birdie on the 18th. His performance vaulted him into a share of the lead with Casey Jarvis at 16-under-par.
