Jayden Schaper claims the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open title with another playoff victory, finishing with a stunning chip-in eagle.
South African golfer Jayden Schaper continued his winning streak on the DP World Tour by capturing the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open at La Réserve Golf Links. Just a week after his triumph at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, Schaper once again emerged victorious in a playoff, this time edging out American Ryan Gerard in dramatic fashion.
Schaper opened his final round with two birdies and an eagle on the front nine, then added four more birdies on the back nine to card an impressive 64 (-8). Gerard kept the pressure on with a bogey-free 66 (-6), featuring four birdies on the front and two more on the back nine.
Both players finished at 22-under-par, forcing a playoff. On the second extra hole, Schaper sealed the win with a spectacular chip-in eagle, while Gerard could only manage par. It marked Schaper’s second consecutive playoff win and his second DP World Tour title in as many weeks.
Jayden Schaper: ‘I couldn’t have asked for anything better’
Speaking after the victory, Schaper was visibly emotional: “The last three weeks have been incredible. I don’t know what to say. It’s just crazy to finish a tournament like this. It’s been such a great week, such a great place, the support, the golf course. From start to finish. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Christmas is going to be great this year, and so is the new year.”
Fellow South African Casey Jarvis secured solo third place after a final-round 71 that included four birdies and three bogeys. He remained a steady presence near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament.
Mixed results for German players in Mauritius
Germany’s Marcel Siem and Marcel Schneider, who had been neck and neck throughout the event, both struggled on the final day. Schneider started steadily but faltered on the back nine with three bogeys and a double bogey, finishing with a 78 and dropping to T37 at -4. Siem also had a rough day, carding a 76 (+4) with three birdies offset by three double bogeys and two bogeys, ending tied with Schneider.
Nick Bachem was the only other German to make the cut. He shot even par in the final round and finished T48 at -1 overall.
