Golf Clubs in Sweden

Sweden is home to over 450 Golf Clubs and resorts and is a popular sport within the country. Not only do these courses offer a great challenge for it’s players, it has amazing views that portray the countryside in its best light. According to Swedish Golf Online, around six percent of all Swedes play golf, the highest percentage in Europe.

You can easily book your tee times with the club online or by phone and the average green fee in Sweden is around 60 euros. There may be local handicap restrictions, however any member of a recognized golf organization can play at any course in Sweden.

Golf is considered competitive first and recreation second in Sweden, but it only makes for a great atmosphere and an ideal place to experience top class golf.

Golf Clubs in Finland

In Finland golf is a relatively young sport, but it is not unpopular. The long summer days and crisp air make the experience top class. The best time is between May and September. There are only a little over 100 courses to choose from, but the options are spectacular.

In fact, Finland has the 10th highest number of registered golfers. Most courses offer 18 holes and are quite spacious. They offer many facilities that are top class, but with green fees that are quite affordable.

Challenge Tour

Gouveia remains composed on day two in Spain

The Challenge Tour is the second-tier men’s professional golf tour in Europe and is operated by the PGA European Tour. World ranking points are awarded for high finishes in Challenge Tour events. This week’s tournament is being played in Girona, Spain at the Empordà Golf Club.

Press release

Ricardo Gouveia posted a four under par round of 67 to open a two stroke lead before darkness halted round two of the Challenge Costa Brava.

The Portuguese got to ten under par at Empordà Golf with his closest challenger Frederic Lacroix of France reaching eight under par through 12 holes.

The 30-year-old  has  been in the winner’s circle twice this year at the Italian Challenge and the Made in Esbjerg Challenge – Presented by FREJA & TotalEnergies. After two solid first rounds in the second of two consecutive events on the same course, Gouveia is aiming to take his opportunities as he targets a sixth Challenge Tour victory.

Comments from Gouveia

“I played very well,” he said. “I finished yesterdays round this morning, played really solid, finished well yesterday and I just continued the good form from yesterday and yeah it’s really difficult out there, so I am happy with how I scored.

“The wind has been very steady this week from the same direction, and I started off well again this morning so to kind of have a small stop in between rounds was good and just to keep it going I was happy with the way I hit the ball as well.

“The course is the same and you know where not to hit the ball so yeah it really helps, and it was a new course last week so have four competitive rounds in it’s a really big help.

“It’s completely different conditions this week, the wind is from a different direction.

“I will do the same things and with this wind you just try and minimise the mistakes and take the opportunities when they come around and that’s the game plan for the rest of the tournament.”

Who else is up to par?

Chase Hanna of the United States and Norway’s Kristian Krogh Johannessen are a shot behind Lacroix of France at seven under par and will also complete their second rounds on Thursday.

Four-time European Tour winner Matteo Manassero and Björn Hellgren of Sweden both signed for one under par rounds of 70 to take fifth spot.

The second round of the Challenge Costa Brava was suspended due to darkness at 18:56pm local time and will resume at 8:50am on Thursday October 21, with round three not starting before 11:30am.

Scandinavia increases their chances at the European Tour this week. What to expect from the PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tours events.

PGA Tour: ZOZO Championship

The PGA Tour makes another stop in Japan right at the beginning of the season for the ZOZO Championship.
The ZOZO Championship is being played in Chiba, Japan at the Accordia Golf Narashino CC at Par 72. The tournament starts on Thursday, 21st of October and ends on Sunday, 24th of October 2021.

With another strong field of participants, we can look forward to top-class golf this week. Narrowing the focus on the Scandinavian golfers, the participation is lower than usually. Only two players will represent the Scandinavians, including Alex Noren and Henrik Norlander, both from Sweden. They did not performed their best last week, but this is a new week with full chances for them to bring Sweden the glory.

European Tour: Mallorca Golf Open.

Back at it. The tournament will be played on the par 72 Golf Santa Ponsa I, designed by Folco Nardi in 1977, which has hosted European Tour events on six previous occasions. The opening round is on Thursday, 21st of October and the last day is on Sunday, 24th of October 2021. This is not only special for the players, but even the Executive board did not see the time for Golf Santa Ponsa to host an European Tour tournmanet once again. It has been 23 years since last time this course served as venue to a European Tour event, and 10 are the years since the last time Mallorca welcomed one.

The presence of our Scandinavian golfers is getting more and more noticeable, starting off with Jeff Winther from Denmark, who will tee off at 9:15am(GMT+2). Coincidence is that there will be no two Scandinavian players together playing in the same group. The audience must keep an eye in all different holes to stay tuned.

LPGA Tour: BMW Ladies Championship.

After a week break in the schedule, the LPGA return to the field, and they do so at the International Busan Golf Course, in South Korea, where the women will fight at the BMW Ladies Championship. Does this mean that the winner also becomes the golfer who likes to drive the most…? One thing is clear, these women drive the fairway better than most.
Matilda Castren(FIN) is kicking in strong already with a hole in one during the practice round, maybe her 6iron keeps her lucky throughout the weekend too. Castren will tee of on Thursday, 22nd of October at 8:33am(GMT+9), and Nanna Madsen(DEN) will open the first round at 9:55am(GMT+9) from hole 10.

PGA Tour Champions: Dominion Energy Charity Classic

The tournament starts on Friday, the 22nd of October, and ends on Sunday, the 24th of October 2021. Making birdies is key for the players to have bigger chances to win. However, at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic, the outcome of playing good goes far and beyond. People can contribute to the Charity through flat donations or based on the number of “birdies” made by PGA TOUR Champions players. Robert Karlsson, from Sweden will fight every shot in representation of the Scandinavian Area, as he is the only participant from there.

The fastest European Tour golfers who broke GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title at Valderrama

Sean Crocker, Nicolai Højgaard, Min Woo Lee and Wilco Nienaber broke a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the ‘Fastest hole of golf by a team of four’

Second Hero Challenge of 2021 saw previous record broken by over three seconds, the record stood at 27,88 seconds. New record was set at Real Club Valderrama, Spain ahead of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters. In this case, hole 4 was the lucky one to witness these players facing the speed challenge. It is a par 5 of 501 yards that receives the name of “waterfall”.

The hole consisted on a fairly straight hole with a narrow fairway. However, there seems not to be much danger off the fairway, specially on the right side where the field opens a little more. Closer to the hole, there is a bunker on the right, just before the water that side-hugs the green. They planned out the entire strategy to play fast and safe. The key was to keep the eye on the pin and to hit the ball “bounce and stop” in order to reduce the timing from any slow back-spin.

Ready, set, go!

Wilco Nienaber was on the tee box to hit the first shot with his driver, aiming towards Sean Crocker. Nienaber hit an enormous 361-yard drive off the tee which gave Sean Crocker, positioned on the fairway and prepared with his two irons on his hands, 140 yards for his second shot which he hit to four feet. Crocker had to think fast to calculate the distance and pick the right club to get it into the green. There, both Min Woo Lee and Nicolai Højgaard were at the flag waiting to tap it in and become the new Guinness World Record winners.
At 5:55pm, two hours later, they set the New Guinness World Record at 24,75 seconds.

Dantorp ready for action at Challenge Costa Brava

Jens Dantorp is aiming to build on his recent good run of form as the 2021 Road to Mallorca arrives at its penultimate stop at the Challenge Costa Brava.

The Swede has finished inside the top 15 in six of his last seven European Challenge Tour starts, including a seventh place finish at last week’s Empordà Challenge, the first of back-to-back events at Empordà Golf.

Climbing the Road to Mallorca rankings

The 32-year-old is currently 28th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, with only this week’s Challenge Costa Brava and the season-ending Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A left on the 2021 schedule, and Dantorp has a first victory since the Ras Al Khaimah, 2017 Golf Challenge in his sights – as well as a spot in that all-important top 20.

The Swede comments on his recent stellar performance

“The last part of the season has been pretty good for me,” he said. “It feels pretty good, I’ve been up there a few times but haven’t really got the job done. Hopefully I can get it done in at least one of the last two.

“My main goal this season was to finish inside the top 20, this is a good course and I know the course at the Grand Final is a good one as well so hopefully two good weeks are coming up, you know the game plan now so you just have to go out there and do it again.”

The 2013 Rolex Trophy winner has recorded nine top 20 finishes on the 2021 Road to Mallorca and believes this year it is all down to the fine margins having finished in 11th place on four separate occasions.

“I’ve wanted to be up there in the top five,” he said. “Overall, in terms of how I have played I feel pretty happy with that. There are small margins as to whether you’re in the top five or even 11th place, in which I have been four times this year, so hopefully I can have those margins on my side for the last two.

“I’m happy but not too happy. I’ll be happy if I am finishing in the top 20. If I get a win here obviously it’s going to help a lot, I can’t affect what the other people are doing, I just need to focus on getting my job done and hopefully that will be enough to win one of the two.”

Road to Mallorca Number Nine Marcel Schneider joins Dantorp in the field this week as he looks to cement his European Tour card for the 2022 season after recording two wins this year, while Frenchman Julien Brun, the winner of last week’s Empordà Challenge, will also tee it up at the Challenge Costa Brava.

The 2021 Challenge Costa Brava gets under way at 8:20am local time on Tuesday October 19, with Dantorp teeing it up at 8:50am alongside Spaniard Lucas Vacarisas and Nicolai Kristensen of Denmark.

San Domenico Golf to host Senior Italian Open

Press Release

San Domenico Golf, located in the Puglia region of Italy, will provide the setting for the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open from November 3-5, 2021.

San Domenico Golf

The South East Italy venue will welcome the Legends Tour for its final stop on European soil before the MCB Tour Championship – Mauritius in December, as the inaugural Legends Tour season edges towards its conclusion.

San Domenico Golf is rich in history and has previously hosted the prestigious Challenge Tour Grand Final between 2005 and 2012. The course will be a true test for many with carefully positioned fairways containing centenary olive trees and glimpses of the ancient city of Egnathia, combined with strategically designed bunkers.

Bringing first-class golf to Puglia

The event will be played as a legacy to the late Sergio Melpignano, the driving force behind the development of the resort and through his visionary entrepreneurship and determination he inspiringly lived his lifelong dream of bringing first-class golf to Puglia.

A strong field is set to compete for the title in Puglia, including Costantino Rocca, the five-time European Tour winner and two-time Legends Tour winner. Rocca was the first Italian to compete in the Ryder Cup in 1993 and will be joined at San Domenico by two-time winner of the event Clark Dennis, of the United States, and Senior Major Champions Stephen Dodd and Roger Chapman.

England’s Barry Lane will tee it up as defending champion after triumphing in the most recent edition of the event in 2019 when he defeated Frenchman Marc Farry in a play-off, while 2005 U.S. Open Champion Michael Campbell will also travel to San Domenico.

Additionally, three-time European Tour winner Anders Hansen will make his Legends Tour debut at the Sergio Melpignano Senior Italian Open after turning 50 in 2020.

Legends Tour Chief Executive comments

Phil Harrison, Chief Executive of the Legends Tour, said: “San Domenico Golf is a truly stunning venue and fits perfectly with our ethos of visiting world class destinations and showcasing them to the world.

“We are all looking forward to visiting Puglia next month as we bring the European leg of our season to an end.”

The Senior Italian Open will take place with the support of DS Automobiles, Fideuram, Kappa and Eureco, Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, Il Giornale and Infront. Sport Senza Frontiere Onlus has also been integral in carrying out the goal of social inclusion through golf in Italy.

English Empire: The English Professional Golfers Dominate Each Tour

Last week the LPGA took a break, and the LET Tour received all the attention for the ladies tours. On the men’s side, the CJ Cup tournament was a battle between Rory McIlroy and the top American players. McIlory dominated in the end defeating the Americans on their own turf. The participation of the English golfers was a stellar performance all around. They either brought back a shiny trophy or landed on the top leaderboards.

PGA Tour: The CJ Cup

For the second time in a row, the PGA Tour made a guest appearance in the gambling metropolis on the American desert state of Nevada. The Summit Club in Las Vegas was once again the scene of deep shooting this weekend – with the better end for Irishman Rory McIlroy, who celebrated his 20th title on the tour. At the end of the CJ Cup, McIlroy played a round of 66 to keep the onrushing Collin Morikawa at bay.

McIllory’s Ryder Cup teammates also made the cut this weekend in Las Vegas.

Ian Poulter: The Postman delivered four great round of 66-67-67-70 and rounded off the tournament at T18. He started off strong and had 13 birdies overall.

Tyrell Hatton: Hatton also started strong getting an eagle on the 18th hole of round one, but sank in the with a killer double bogey on the last round, hole 13 sending him to 1 under par and next to Poulter at T18.

European Tour: Andalucía Masters

The Real Club Valderrama hosted the Andalucia Masters for the seventh time on the European Tour and once again proved to be a tough opponent for the professionals – only 14 players remained under par after 72 holes.

Matthew Fitzpatrick showed the best performance over four days in Sotogrande, Spain, who brought his skills on the course in an impressively calm manner, exploited the mistakes of the competition and finally bagged his seventh title on the tour. With the 69 Fitzpatrick came into the clubhouse for the third time under par and won by three strokes. “I’m happy to win here,” beamed the winner on the 18th green. “To stay bogey-free is of course something very special. It was great,” summed up Fitzpatrick, who had remained “patient” over 72 holes. James Morrison also gave a grand performance landing him at T4 and scores of 72-73-69-68. Behind him on the leaderboard although not too far down was Englishman Robert Rock who came in at T6. Although Spain was hot with English golfer’s these guys deserve the honorable mentions.

How the best Scandinavian golfers came out from last week’s events

Last week the LPGA took a break, and the LET Tour received all the attention for the ladies tours. On the men’s side, the CJ Cup tournamnet was a pure show that brought Rickie Fowler (USA) back to the upper part of the leaderboard. Rory McIlroy overtook the top American players, on American soil. The participation of the Scandinavian golfers was not the highest of the year so far. However, Sebastian Söderberg(SWE) and Alexander Björk(SWE) brought some glory home. Söderberg finished T2 at the European Tour tournament of Esterlla Damm Andalucia Masters in Valderrama Golf Course, and Björk made an incredible T4. The best golfers from Denmark, Finlad, Norway, and Sweden are now having some rest to give it all next weekend at the PGA, European, LPGA, and Let Tours.

PGA TOUR: The CJ Cup at Summit

The Irish golfer Rory McIlroy won his 20th tour victory at the PGA Tour event. McIlroy made the exemption to a top 5 on the leaderboard strongly taken by the American players. Viktor Hovland made the Top 20, finishing T18 with a total of 18-under par. Hovland started strong with a bogey-free round of 65 (7-under par), but the luck didn’t last and didn’t manage to push more birdies in. Alex Noren (T59) and Rasmus Hojgaard (63rd) managed to make few birdies along their rounds, but could not lower down the amount of bogeys per round, which made it difficult to rise up on the leaderboard. Noren and Hojgaard signed totals of -10 and -9 respectively.

European Tour: Andalucía Masters

The Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters was played at the golf course of Real Club Valderrama, which plays at Par 71. To the surprise of the Scandinavian field, Sebastian Soderberg shocked the public coming out of the blue with scores of 70-69-72-70 to finish T2, only 3 shots behind the leader, Matt Fitzpatrick. Also from Sweden, his fellow teammate Alexander Björk made a T4 with a total of 2-under par. Real Club Valderrama was in perfect shape, definitely set up for professional golfers of high calibre. Other players from Denmark such as Thomas Bjorn, Nicolai Hojgaard, and Lucas Bjerregaard did not make the cut this time. Thomas Bjorn was in first line after the last player who moved forward into the last two rounds.

Champions Tour: SAS Championship

The SAS Championship was held in Cary, North Carolina at the Prestonwood CC. The SAS Championship is part of the Champions Tour, where the legends play. The sport of golf has not always been popular in the Scandinavia Area (Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden). However, it is slowly becoming more of an interest for the younger generations. For that reason, there are not yet many golfers that participate with the legends. However, Robert Karlsson (SWE) is a pioneer on the Scandinavian golf. During his first round, Karlsson signed a scorecard with more birdies than pars on it, but a couple of bogeys limited his result to 6-under par. The following two rounds, the Swedish player finished 4-over par and even-par on the last, for a total of 2-under par (66-76-72).
