Grim’s Dyke Golf Club Vets Team Secures Victory at Stanmore Derby

As the British weather continued its usual dreary narrative, the veterans of Grim’s Dyke Golf Club offered a stark contrast with a sizzling performance that set the stage at Stanmore. With a series of impressive early season wins under their belt, the Vets team approached the derby with a confidence that resonated through the fairways. After four matches, the score was deadlocked at 2-2, setting a dramatic tone for the remaining games.

The tide turned in the fifth match, where everything hung in the balance until a masterful chip by Grim’s Dyke fell just an inch shy of the 18th pin, clinching the match. The momentum carried into match 6, which the Grim’s Dyke team closed out comfortably, securing a memorable 4-2 victory over their local rivals.

The victors extended their gratitude to the hosts at Stanmore Golf Club, not only for the competition but for the warm hospitality that included a superb lunch and the traditional pre-match custard creams with coffee, enjoyed perhaps a little too heartily by some team members who might’ve benefitted from a bit more ‘loosening up in the nets’.

Team McIlroy/Lowry Celebrate Victory with a Round of Karaoke

The Zurich Classic is one of just a few team events in professional golf. Naturally, the pros make a special point of playing with their mates not only in the practice rounds, but also in a tournament. One example is the Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry. The long-standing friendship between these two players is no secret and both enjoyed a weekend of top-class golf. To top it off, they even claimed victory in their first appearance as a team at the PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic 2024.

Rory McIlroy: “To win any PGA TOUR event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends is awesome”

“We went out there, we had loads of fun, and we won the tournament. You couldn’t ask for a better week,” Lowry said after their win. And McIlroy added: “To win any PGA TOUR event is very cool, but to do it with one of your closest friends … Think about where we met and where we’ve come from, to be on this stage and do this together – just awesome to be able to do it alongside this guy.” And all of this happened because McIlroy “proposed” to Lowry at a “drunken lunch”, as the Northern Irishman told Claire Rodgers before the event.

In addition to the trophy, the duo received WWE-style belts. Well, for McIlroy it was a good fit and a perfect addition to the outfit. Shane Lowry, on the other hand, had a little trouble putting it on.

To celebrate McIlroy’s 25th career PGA Tour victory and Lowry’s first win since 2019, the pair took to the stage after the tournament and sang a perfect rendition of ‘Don’t stop believing’ by Journey.

Alex Fitzpatrick completes trio of BAL.ON brand ambassadors

Since its official market launch in August 2023, the BAL.ON Smart Kit, the first intelligent training tool for golf from Continental, has been inspiring PGA professionals, tour pros and amateur golfers with its technology, functionality and wide range of applications in training and on the course. BAL.ON recently announced its collaboration with DP World Tour Professional Alex Fitzpatrick, who will represent the brand as a global ambassador alongside Matti Schmid and Esther Henseleit.

Alex Fitzpatrick becomes brand ambassador for BAL.ON

Alex Fitzpatrick played for the college team at Wake Forest University in North Carolina for four years before turning professional in 2022, during which time he represented Great Britain several times at international tournaments. In his first full year as a professional, the now 25-year-old secured full playing rights on the DP World Tour, including a tied 17th place at the Open Championship in Royal Liverpool, a second place at the ISPS Handa World Invitational and his first victory as a professional at the British Challenge on the Challenge Tour. This season, Alex has already achieved six top 20 finishes in Europe’s top class and was portrayed together with his brother in the second season of “Full Swing” on Netflix.

“A real everyday tool – easy to understand and use.”

“I am delighted to be working with BAL.ON and to be part of this phenomenal team. The technology and ease of use of the Smart Kit is truly impressive. It’s a tool that golfers can use in every area of the game,” says Fitzpatrick. “On tour I use the BAL.ON Smart Kit mainly to make sure I rotate properly on iron shots and in my short game without the center of pressure shifting too far left or right – something I struggled with a bit at the start of the season. Luckily, with the Smart Kit from BAL.ON, I have a tool that allows me to immediately check this data, which is not visible in the video, no matter where I am. This helped me to get back on track very quickly. Things are a little different on the tee. Here, my coach Mark Blackburn and I want the greatest possible separation between the center of pressure, which moves forward in the downswing, and the center of mass, which remains behind the ball. Without the BAL.ON Smart Kit, I wouldn’t be able to work so consistently with my tight tournament schedule because I simply wouldn’t have the data. It has become a real everyday tool for me – easy to understand and use.”

“We are very happy to have Alex, Esther and Matti as global brand ambassadors for BAL.ON. Not many young sports brands enjoy the trust of professional athletes so early on and get the chance to work with them. We are already offering the best players in the world great added value for their training and development. Their feedback makes us confident that our data advantage can also significantly improve the game and technique of amateurs. Alex, Esther and Matti will help us spread our message to PGA professionals, retailers and golfers.” – Martin Bock, Head of Marketing at BAL.ON

Specifications, availability and price

The BAL.ON Smart Kit is the first fully mobile and affordable solution on the market that measures the pressure distribution over the entire golf swing. This data is combined with high-resolution video material in the smartphone. While pressure measurement systems, which provide fundamental data on biomechanics, have so far only been used occasionally and mainly in competitive sports, Continental is now making this technology palatable to the masses.

The BAL.ON Smart Kit consists of a pair of 2mm thin, pressure-sensitive soles that are inserted into the golf shoes, Smart Pods and a smartphone app for iOS and Android devices, packed in a practical training case. The Smart Kit is available in four different sizes, from S (EU 36 – 38) to XL (EU 45 – 47) at an RRP of €549.

Homa, Kisner and Kim join Tiger’s TGL Team

Jupiter Links Golf Club (GC) announced today that Max Homa, currently ranked No. 9 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), Tom Kim, and Kevin Kisner have joined Tiger Woods to represent the four-man roster for Jupiter Links Golf Club in TGL presented by SoFi, the new tech-forward, prime time golf league set to launch  January 7, 2025 on ESPN.

“I have already shared my excitement and optimism for TGL as a league and product,” said Woods, who is part owner of Jupiter Links Golf Club and co-founder of TMRW Sports. “Now that we have finalized our roster with a team of world-class golfers, I am even more confident that this group will proudly represent the Jupiter area and connect with our fans for years to come.”

Tiger Woods’ TGL Golf Team

Max Homa is a six-time winner on the PGA TOUR including his 2021 win at the Genesis Invitational, a tournament he grew up attending that is now hosted by Woods. Homa has represented the U.S. in team golf on three occasions at the 2023 Ryder Cup, 2022 Presidents Cup, and 2013 Walker Cup. Homa joins Jupiter Links GC as the top-ranked player on the squad, having been paired with Woods at the Masters Tournament earlier this month where Homa finished T3 and Woods broke the consecutive cuts made record by advancing to the weekend for the 24th time. Homa is also one of the great personalities in the game today.

“Following Tiger’s career is one of the main reasons that I became an avid golfer. I remember watching him win the 1997 Masters, and now getting to play alongside him has been amazing,” Homa said. “It’s really exciting to call Tiger, Tom, and Kevin teammates. Thanks to TGL, I’ll be able to play with some of the best golfers in the world and bring this unique and exciting format to golf while also finding ways to connect with one of the best golf markets in the country in South Florida.”

Tom Kim is a rising star in the world of golf, already amassing seven international victories and winning three times on the PGA TOUR and is currently the No. 23 in the world (OWGR). Kim’s first PGA TOUR victory came at the 2022 Wyndham Championship and made him the second-youngest winner on the PGA TOUR since World War II at 20 years, 1 month, 17 days, second only to Jordan Spieth at the 2013 John Deere Classic.  He starred at the 2022 Presidents Cup when he joined the International Team for the first time in his career and then won for the third time on the PGA TOUR at the Shriners Children’s Open to become the youngest three-time winner on the PGA TOUR since Tiger Woods in 1997. He goes by “Tom,” a nickname he had as a child after Thomas the Tank Engine in the TV series “Thomas & Friends.”

“I am so excited about playing in the TGL format with this group of guys. Obviously, I grew up inspired by Tiger Woods, but Max and Kevin are two of my favorite guys out on Tour. Both are genuinely good guys, but both also have a similar competitive fire.” Kim said. “It will be incredible to join these guys as teammates. To talk strategy with Tiger in a true competition is something I never dreamed could happen.”

Kevin Kisner is a four-time PGA TOUR Champion and two-time U.S. Team participant in the Presidents Cup. Kisner has long been thought of as one of the top short-game players and top overall personalities in the game. The former Georgia Bulldog has recently dipped his toe in the world of broadcasting appearing as an analyst on several recent NBC Sports PGA TOUR broadcasts.

“I feel very privileged to have played in the Tiger Era. Having the opportunity to compete against and alongside the GOAT has been one of the things I’ll remember most at the end of my career,” Kisner said. “While I know we will have a lot of fun as a team with me, Tiger, Max and Tom, I also know when Tiger’s competitive fire kicks in, we are going to be ready to play and win. This is the perfect team to bring both fun and competition together at the same time. Can’t wait.”

JUPITER LINKS GC UNVEILS LOGO AND BRAND

Logo: The Jupiter Links Golf Club brings to life the vibrant energy of Jupiter with the “Palm Flag” signature element combining beach and golf lifestyle with a golf pin flag and palm tree. The handwritten font is a nod to Tiger’s signature and the palm branches breaking the red circle representing the rising sun on the horizon. The three distinct sections of the pin represent the three competing Jupiter Links GC golfers at each TGL match.

Colors: The primary color ‘Tiger Red’ represents Tiger’s bold signature Sunday uniform with midnight blue used to compliment the off-white beach sand and represent the Florida beach vibe.

Neymar Damages Tee Box With Golf Swing

There are quite a few golfing footballers. Harry Kane, Thomas Müller and Gareth Bale have already proven their skills many times over. While Harry Kane is considered the best golfer in the Bundesliga, Gareth Bale has already taken part in international tournaments such as the Pebble Beach Pro-Am and even Rory McIlroy was impressed by the Welshman’s skills. However, a footballer who has also recently picked up a golf club still needs some practice. A video shows the superstar Neymar Jr, who now plays for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal, playing golf in Abu Dhabi. It quickly becomes clear that the Brazilian has not been on a golf course very often.

Neymar damages golf course

A short video showing Neymar attempting to swing a golf club spread like wildfire on social media, causing laughter and head-shaking around the world. In the clip, which was recorded during his stay in the United Arab Emirates, Neymar can be seen missing the ball with a huge swing and instead devastating the grass of the golf course. His failed attempt to master a sport outside his usual area of expertise quickly became the talk of the golfing world.

Fans and spectators couldn’t help but draw a parallel with another famous sportsman: Gareth Bale. The Welsh soccer star, known for his love of golf, was humorously suggested by some as a potential mentor for Neymar. While Bale regularly shows off his skills on the golf course, Neymar still seems to have a long way to go to achieve the same. Perhaps it’s time for Neymar to not only improve his golf swings, but also ask for help from experts. Gareth Bale or professional golf coaches could help him hone his skills on the course and possibly discover a new passion. After all, as in soccer, practice is the key to success in golf.
