Bernhard Langer shares his memories of the PNC Championship and playing alongside his son in this unique family event.
Bernhard Langer vividly remembers his first appearance at the PNC Championship. At the time, his son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and suddenly among golf’s elite. “We had a blast,” Langer recalls. “He had to compete against professional teams—hitting drives and aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even though he was three over par.” It wasn’t about the score, but about the experience. “It was just a wonderful time,” Langer says. That first outing sparked a tradition that continues to this day. “I loved this tournament from the moment I was invited.”
Legends and Major Champions at the PNC Championship
The PNC Championship brings together some of golf’s most iconic figures. For Bernhard Langer, that’s a big part of the appeal. “Being out there with other Major champions and legends of the game is something truly special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the game with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Big careers meet small swings, with Langer at the heart of it all—as both a father and a player.
A Holiday Tradition for the Langers
The December date makes the tournament even more meaningful for many players, including Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, just before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion,” he says. While the PGA Tour and other circuits take a winter break, the PNC Championship offers a unique blend of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
