As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially opted out of the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh. The five-time major winner intends to stay connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for family. LIV CEO Scott McNeil confirmed the amicable agreement. Koepka is known as a competitive athlete who thrives in top-level contests, a drive only partially fueled by LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 due to concerns over injury-shortened career and a desire to secure retirement earnings. Thus, skipping his last contractual season is unsurprising, though questions remain about possible buyout or refund of guaranteed earnings. Koepka also remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, which recently named Talor Gooch as captain.
Speculation centers on where Koepka will play next. He would be immediately eligible for the DP World Tour, likely with a penalty, or he could return to the PGA Tour after serving a one-year suspension following his last LIV appearance, with previous lifetime bans softened. Reinstating top LIV players benefits the stronger PGA Tour. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership and rejoin the players’ circle.
