As expected, Brooks Koepka has opted out of the LIV Golf League’s 2026 season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. However, Koepka is known as a competitor motivated by high-level competition – which LIV hadn’t fully provided. His 2022 move to LIV was largely driven by injury concerns and securing a retirement fund. Questions remain about whether he had to buy out his contract or repay part of his guarantee. He remains an owner of Smash GC, with Talor Gooch as the new captain.
The big speculation is where Koepka will compete next – the DP World Tour where he’d be immediately eligible (possibly with a penalty), or the PGA Tour where he has served a one-year suspension since his last LIV appearance after life bans were softened. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which wasn’t extended post-2022.
