As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family. This was reportedly agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka, known for thriving in high-level competitive settings, seemed less motivated at LIV events. He shifted to LIV in 2022 mainly due to injury concerns threatening his career and to secure a substantial retirement fund. This makes his skipping the final contracted season unsurprising, though questions remain about buyout terms or refunds on guaranteed salary. He remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, which appointed Talor Gooch as the new captain.
Speculation grows about where Koepka will soon appear — on the DP World Tour where he would be immediately eligible, likely paying a penalty, or the PGA Tour where he faces a one-year suspension after his last LIV event, despite former commissioner Jay Monahan softening lifetime bans. The key question seems partially answered: ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which expired after 2022, to rejoin the playing field.
