As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season, which begins on February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family. This was agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. However, Koepka is a competitive type who gets fully motivated during high-level sports challenges, something he rarely experienced at LIV. He originally joined LIV in 2022 mainly due to injury concerns and to secure a solid retirement fund. Thus, it’s not surprising he skipped the last contracted season, though questions remain about potential payouts or refunds. The 35-year-old remains an owner of LIV team Smash GC, with Talor Gooch as the new captain.
Speculation is rife about where Koepka will tee off next. The DP World Tour could grant immediate playing rights, possibly with a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he served a one-year suspension after his last LIV appearance. The former life bans by Commissioner Jay Monahan were eased, enabling LIV returnees to join the established tour, which suits the PGA Tour’s interests well. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach revealed Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which had not been renewed after 2022.
