As expected, Brooks Koepka has opted out of the LIV Golf League 2026 season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. However, Koepka is known as a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, something he found limited in LIV, which he joined in 2022 amid injury concerns for a solid retirement fund. Questions remain whether he had to buy out or repay part of his guaranteed salary. Despite this, he remains the owner of the LIV team Smash GC, now led by Talor Gooch.
The speculation focuses on which tours Koepka will return to next: the DP World Tour, likely requiring a penalty payment, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension following his last LIV appearance. Lifetime bans under former Commissioner Jay Monahan have been softened. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, which was not extended after 2022, aiming to rejoin the player pool.
