As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season, starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion intends to stay connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time. This was reportedly a friendly agreement, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. However, Koepka is known as a competitor who thrives in high-level competition, which he somewhat lacked in LIV Golf. Originally switching in 2022 partly due to injury concerns and to secure a solid retirement fund, his choice to skip the final contract year raises questions: Did he buy out his contract or repay part of his guaranteed salary? Does he remain an owner of LIV’s Smash GC team, now captained by Talor Gooch?
Speculations abound on where Koepka will play next—immediately eligible on the DP World Tour, perhaps with a penalty? Or back on the PGA Tour after serving a one-year suspension following his last LIV event, since former Commissioner Jay Monahan reduced lifetime bans substantially? This key question seems partly answered: ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which had not been extended beyond 2022.
