As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season, which starts on February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner plans to stay connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This was amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level challenges, something he found limited at LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly because he feared his career was ending due to injuries and wanted to secure a solid retirement fund. Thus, his decision to skip the final contract year raises questions about buyouts or guarantees repayment. He remains owner of his LIV team Smash GC, with Talor Gooch as the new captain.
Speculations about where Koepka will play next are rampant. With the DP World Tour he could play immediately, possibly paying a penalty. On the PGA Tour, he faces a one-year suspension, eased from lifetime bans by ex-commissioner Jay Monahan. Reconciliation aids both parties, as LIV returnees strengthen the PGA Tour. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied to reinstate his PGA Tour membership last Friday.
