As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for his family. This was agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, something he experienced only to a limited extent in LIV. He switched to the Saudi-backed league in 2022 mainly because injury concerns made him anticipate the end of his career and he wanted a solid retirement income. Thus, his choice to skip the final contracted season is not surprising, though questions linger: Did he buy out the final season or repay part of his guaranteed salary? Does he remain the owner of his LIV team Smash GC, which has already named Talor Gooch as captain?
Speculation rises about which tours Koepka will play on next. The DP World Tour would allow immediate eligibility, possibly with a fine; the PGA Tour has a one-year suspension rule since his last LIV event, though previous lifetime bans by former commissioner Jay Monahan were significantly relaxed. The PGA Tour seems to now partially answer this key question. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which had lapsed after 2022, and to be reinstated as a member.
