As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for his family. This was agreed upon amicably, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitive player motivated by high-level challenges, which he found limited in LIV. He joined LIV mainly in 2022 fearing an early end to his career due to injuries and to secure substantial retirement funds. Thus, skipping the last contractual season is not surprising, though questions remain about potential buyouts or paybacks. He still owns his LIV team Smash GC, which recently appointed Talor Gooch as captain.
Speculations are rife about which fairways Koepka will appear on next: the DP World Tour, where he would immediately be eligible possibly after a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension from his last LIV appearance. However, suspensions have been eased, reflecting a strategic rather than vengeful approach by the PGA Tour. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022, and to be admitted back into the players’ circle.
