As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the rival circuit but needs more family time. This friendly agreement was stated officially by LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level contests and has had limited motivation at LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 primarily as he thought his career was nearly over due to injury and wanted a solid retirement fund. Thus, skipping his final contract year is not surprising, although some questions remain about buyout arrangements and his ownership status in LIV’s Smash GC team led by Talor Gooch.
Speculation is rampant about where Koepka will next play. The DP World Tour would allow immediate eligibility, possibly with a penalty. The PGA Tour, however, has a one-year ban following his last LIV event, although the lifetime bans from former commissioner Jay Monahan have been significantly reduced. It seems more pragmatic to welcome returning LIV players, especially stars, as this benefits the PGA Tour. ESPN reporter Mark Schlabach revealed that Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022, aiming for reinstatement to the players’ pool.
