As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially opted out of the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh. The five-time major champion intends to stay connected with the competing circuit but needs more time for his family, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s statement. However, Koepka is known as a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, something LIV has limited. He originally joined LIV in 2022 due to injury concerns and the opportunity to secure a substantial retirement fund. Questions remain about the financial terms of his exit and whether he remains an owner of his LIV team Smash GC, now captained by Talor Gooch.
Speculation abounds on where Koepka will play next. He could return immediately to the DP World Tour, potentially paying a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension following his last LIV appearance. The PGA Tour has softened previous lifetime bans. ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach revealed Koepka formally applied to reactivate his PGA Tour membership last Friday.
