As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh. The five-time major champion intends to remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for his family, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. However, Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, which he found limited in LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly because injuries threatened his career end, seeking a solid retirement fund. Thus, skipping the last contractual playing season is not surprising, though questions about contract buyouts or salary repayments arise. Koepka remains the owner of his LIV team Smash GC, recently appointing Talor Gooch as the new captain.
Speculation grows about which tours Koepka will join next. He is immediately eligible on the DP World Tour, potentially with a penalty, or he might return to the PGA Tour, where he must serve a one-year suspension since his last LIV event, after life bans imposed by former commissioner Jay Monahan were drastically eased. This critical question now partially answers itself. According to ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022, to return to the player ranks.
