As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion will remain connected to the rival circuit but needs more time for family. This mutual agreement was announced officially by LIV CEO Scott McNeil. However, speculation continues surrounding Koepka’s next steps. Known as a competitor who thrives in high-level competition, Koepka’s motivation was limited at LIV. In 2022, he joined LIV mainly because injuries made him consider ending his career, seeking a solid retirement income. His skipping the final contracted season is thus unsurprising, though questions remain about potential buyouts or repayments. He remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, which named Talor Gooch as new captain.
Speculation revolves around which tour Koepka will join next: the DP World Tour, where he would be eligible immediately likely with a penalty, or the PGA Tour, where he faces a one-year suspension following his last LIV event after lifelong bans by former Commissioner Jay Monahan were softened. Why be vindictive when every returning LIV player benefits the PGA Tour? The key issue seems partly resolved: ESPN journalist Mark Schlabach reported Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his withdrawn PGA Tour membership and rejoin the player ranks.
