As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner remains connected to the competing circuit but needs more family time. This was amicably agreed upon, according to LIV CEO Scott McNeil’s official statement. Koepka is a competitor who thrives in high-level contests but has been less motivated in LIV. He mainly switched to LIV in 2022 due to career-threatening injuries and to secure a retirement fund. So, skipping his last contract year is not surprising, though questions remain whether he had to buy out or return part of his guaranteed salary. He remains the owner of LIV team Smash GC, which recently appointed Talor Gooch as captain.
Speculations abound on which tours Koepka will play next: the DP World Tour where he would be immediately eligible, possibly paying a penalty; or the PGA Tour where he must serve a one-year suspension since his last LIV appearance, after former commissioner Jay Monahan reduced lifetime bans. Why be vengeful when every LIV returnee benefits the stronger established Tour? This key question seems partly answered. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported that Koepka formally applied last Friday to reactivate his PGA Tour membership, which was not renewed after 2022, to rejoin the playing field.
