As expected, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the 2026 LIV Golf season starting February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major champion intends to stay connected to the competing circuit but needs more time for family. This amicable agreement was officially stated by LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitive type who thrives in top-level competition, something he found limited in LIV. He switched to the Saudi-backed league in 2022 largely because an injury once threatened to end his career, and he sought a substantial retirement fund. Thus, skipping the final contractual season is not surprising, though questions remain regarding buyout terms or payments. It’s also uncertain if the 35-year-old remains an owner of the LIV team Smash GC, which named Talor Gooch as its new captain.
Speculation is rife about which tours Koepka will compete on next—immediate eligibility on the DP World Tour possibly with a penalty, or on the PGA Tour where he must serve a one-year suspension since his last LIV appearance, after former Commissioner Jay Monahan’s lifetime bans were significantly reduced. A key question seems partially answered: according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership, which had not been extended beyond 2022.
