As expected, Brooks Koepka has officially opted out of the LIV Golf League season 2026 beginning February 7 in Riyadh; the five-time major winner stays connected to the competing circuit but needs more family time. This amicable agreement was stated by LIV CEO Scott McNeil. Koepka is a competitor who thrives on high-level competition, something he seldom found at LIV. He joined LIV in 2022 mainly because of injuries threatening his career and the opportunity to secure a solid retirement fund. Therefore, skipping the last contractually obligated season is not surprising, though questions remain about possible buyouts or repayment of guaranteed fees. Koepka, 35, remains owner of LIV team Smash GC, which has named Talor Gooch as the new captain.
Speculation swirls about Koepka’s next tour. On the DP World Tour, he would be eligible immediately, possibly paying a penalty. On the PGA Tour, he faces a one-year suspension from his last LIV appearance, after previously lifetime bans by former Commissioner Jay Monahan were softened. Reconciliation seems beneficial for all, with the PGA Tour welcoming returning LIV players. According to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach, Koepka formally applied last Friday to reinstate his PGA Tour membership and rejoin the player ranks.
