Following strong performances in Bahrain and California, Schott and Jäger climb the Official World Golf Rankings as the top positions also shift.
After an eventful tournament weekend featuring the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour in Bahrain and the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour in Southern California, significant changes occurred in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR). At the thrilling finale of the Bahrain Championship, Freddy Schott from Düsseldorf (Düsseldorfer Golf Club) emerged victorious.
With his win, Schott surged 94 places in the Race to Dubai standings, moving from 103rd to 9th. On the OWGR, he climbed more than 200 spots, rising from 436 at the start of last week to 195, entering the top 200. Nearby in the rankings is Nicolai von Dellingshausen, also from Düsseldorf but with roots at Golf Club Hubbelrath. Von Dellingshausen currently ranks 192nd, unchanged from the previous week.
Jäger also climbs the OWGR – movement at the top
At the Farmers Insurance Open, Stephan Jäger began his comeback on Saturday and secured a tie for 5th place on Sunday with a 15-under-par total. The 36-year-old from Munich jumped into the top 100 of the OWGR, climbing 22 spots to 99th, closely trailing Germany’s top player Matti Schmid, who finished T56 and sits 98th, separated by a narrow point difference of 0.0216.
There was also movement among the top ranks of the OWGR. Englishman Justin Rose’s victory at the Farmers Insurance Open propelled him from 10th to 3rd place. As a result, Tommy Fleetwood dropped from 3rd to 4th, while Russell Henley and Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre each slipped one spot. Rose now ranks behind second-placed Rory McIlroy and the untouchable number one Scottie Scheffler, who holds an 8.5-point lead over the Northern Irishman.
