Nerve-wracking Bahrain finish: Freddy Schott wins the playoff against Reed and Hill, earns first DP World Tour victory, climbs to 9th in Race to Dubai.
At the Royal Golf Club in Bahrain, the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour remained thrilling until the very last moment. In a tight showdown among Scotsman Calum Hill, American Patrick Reed, and German Freddy Schott, the German prevailed in a nerve-racking final-day playoff. This victory marks Schott’s first triumph on the DP World Tour, propelling the Düsseldorf native up 94 spots to 9th place in the Race to Dubai rankings.
Trio Shares Lead After Final Round
All three players finished Sunday tied at 17 under par at the top of the leaderboard. Freddy Schott improved on his previous day with a 69, highlighted by four birdies on the front nine but marred by a bogey on hole 8. Despite a double bogey on hole 11, he managed three more birdies and an additional bogey to post three under par for the day.
American Patrick Reed carded a 67, five under par, with seven birdies and two bogeys, coming close to his best round of 66 posted the day before.
Scot Calum Hill posted a solid 71, one under par, but his strong 61 on Friday had given him a cushion that was eventually closed by his competitors. His final round included five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey, not enough for outright victory at the Royal Golf Club.

In the playoff, Schott opened with a par, while Patrick Reed bogeyed with five strokes. Calum Hill matched par with four strokes, forcing a second playoff hole. There, Hill’s seven strokes on the par-4 saw him out of contention, while Schott secured even par to claim the championship.
Spanish veteran Sergio García, who led during various stages of the tournament, finished the final round at 68 and tied for fourth place alongside New Zealander Daniel Hillier, both finishing at 16 under par overall.
