The Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship at the Royal Golf Club Bahrain on the DP World Tour stayed thrilling until the very last moment. A strong battle unfolded between Scot Calum Hill, American Patrick Reed, and German Freddy Schott, with Schott eventually clinching victory in a tense playoff on the final day. This win marks Schott’s first triumph on the DP World Tour and propels the Düsseldorf native up 94 places to 9th in the Race to Dubai rankings.
Trio shares the lead after final round
All three players finished the final Sunday tied at 17 under par atop the leaderboard. Freddy Schott improved on his previous day’s score with a 69, including four birdies on the front nine but a bogey on the eighth hole. Although he suffered a double bogey on the 11th, three more birdies and one bogey on the back nine led to a three-under-par round.
American Patrick Reed shot a 67 in the final round, five under par, with seven birdies and two bogeys, closely matching his best round of the tournament—a 66 from Saturday.
Scot Calum Hill carded a 71, one under par, securing a high position on the leaderboard thanks to his impressive 61 on Friday. Despite five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey, Hill was unable to clinch the win at the Royal Golf Club.
DP World Tour: Dramatic playoff decision in favor of Freddy Schott
In the playoff, Freddy Schott began with a par on the first hole, while Patrick Reed bogeyed with five strokes and Calum Hill matched par, forcing a second playoff hole. On the second hole, Hill suffered a seven-stroke finish on the par-4, ending his chances. Schott held steady with even par to secure the championship.
Spain’s Sergio García, who had held the lead multiple times during the tournament, finished with a 68 on the final day, sharing fourth place with New Zealander Daniel Hillier, both at 16 under par.
