DP World Tour opens door for LIV players, family joy in Oban, Fox’s errors and Fleetwood’s new look. The Back Nine.
Brooks Koepka has endured his first week back on the PGA Tour with dignity. Finishing T56 at Justin Rose’s win at the Farmers Insurance Open wasn’t a highlight performance, but this time the journey was the goal. Koepka started with a one-over-par 73, broke the cut with a second-round 68, then closed with 73 and 70 at Torrey Pines. Mission accomplished. After securing his weekend spot on Friday, the five-time major winner spoke about falling back in love with the game, something he missed during his LIV Golf days: the competition, the gritty fight, struggling to sink a three-meter putt even when trailing by 20 strokes. Every shot counts when hundreds chase the same goal.
However, Koepka’s comeback is still stirring controversy for seeming too smooth and easy. Not just Wyndham Clark but also Hideki Matsuyama expressed strong words ahead of the Farmers in a rare candid talk with Golf Digest Japan. Normally known for polite reserve, the 2021 Masters champion appeared genuinely upset.
