Stephan Jäger started a strong comeback with a flawless 65, gaining 39 spots and standing T6 before the final round.
The Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, California, remains intensely competitive. Leading the field is still 45-year-old American Justin Rose, despite setbacks on the back nine during the third round.
Rose Holds Lead Despite Back Nine Struggles
Rose shined with four birdies on the front nine but incurred three bogeys on the back nine. Three additional birdies on the back nine resulted in a 68 for the day, less than his earlier rounds of 62 on Thursday and 65 on Friday. Nonetheless, Rose maintains a six-shot lead atop the leaderboard at 21 under par.
American Joel Dahmen trails Rose, also posting a strong 68 during round three. Dahmen moved up one position to solo second at 15 under par. Close behind at 13 under par each are two Asian players sharing third place: Japanese Ryo Hisatsune and Korean Si Woo Kim.
Both players competed on the South Course of the California venue on day three. Hisatsune recovered from two bogeys on the front nine with three birdies and was bogey-free on the back nine, adding three more birdies for a 68. Kim carded a 69, including a double bogey on hole 12, but seven birdies and two bogeys resulted in three under par for the day.
PGA Tour: Jäger’s Strong Comeback and Leap Forward
German golfer Stephan Jäger rebounded impressively from a 75 on the previous day. After finishing the second round with 75 strokes, Jäger played flawlessly on Saturday with seven birdies for a strong 65. This effort moved him up to a tie for sixth place, climbing 39 spots on the leaderboard during the third round.
Brooks Koepka, making his PGA Tour comeback after LIV Golf, posted a mediocre third round and stands tied for 61st with a round one over par. Matti Schmid made the cut on Friday but could only improve his position by 15 spots to a tie for 30th after shooting a 70.
