DP World Tour: Freddy Schott Wins First Title in Dramatic Bahrain Playoff

Nerve-racking Bahrain finish: Freddy Schott claims first DP World Tour win in a playoff against Reed and Hill, rising to 9th in Race to Dubai.

The Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship at the Royal Golf Club Bahrain delivered suspense until the very last moment on the DP World Tour. In a tight contest among Scotsman Calum Hill, American Patrick Reed, and German Freddy Schott, it was Schott who emerged victorious in a thrilling final-day playoff. This marks Schott’s first DP World Tour title, propelling the Düsseldorf native to 9th place in the Race to Dubai rankings, climbing 94 positions.

Trio Shares Lead After Final Round

All three players finished Sunday tied at 17 under par atop the leaderboard. Freddy Schott improved on his previous round with a 69, featuring four front nine birdies but a bogey at the 8th hole and a costly double bogey at the 11th. Despite some ups and downs on the back nine, Schott closed three under par for the day.

Patrick Reed carded a 67, five under par, with seven birdies and two bogeys, nearly matching his best round of 66 from the previous day. Calum Hill shot a one-under 71, maintaining a high leaderboard position thanks to a stellar 61 on Friday. However, his final round included five birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey, insufficient to secure outright victory.

The playoff began with Schott making par. Reed bogeyed with five strokes, while Hill matched par. The 18th hole was replayed, where Hill faltered with seven strokes on the par-4, missing his chance to win. Schott played even par again to clinch the tournament.

Spanish veteran Sergio García, who had led multiple times during the event, finished the day with a 68, sharing fourth place with New Zealander Daniel Hillier, both at 16 under par.
