PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Rose Extends His Lead

Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open. Justin Rose meanwhile extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German fired a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free afterwards, recording six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 which propelled him 57 places forward to a share of 45th.

Stephan Jäger also made it through to the weekend. After two rounds, he stands at -4 overall. A difficult stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early on. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke lost on the back nine led to a 75 (+3), dropping him 40 places in the standings, but he remains safely inside the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Form on the PGA Tour

Making his comeback on the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After an opening round of +1, the major champion significantly improved with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey helped Koepka reach the weekend barely at -3 total. On his start, he said: \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure of what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the man to beat. After an outstanding 62 (-10) opening round, the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7) round. Six birdies and one eagle offset by only one bogey brought his total to -17, increasing his lead to four strokes ahead of the weekend. Rose can already celebrate success after 36 holes, surpassing his personal best of -15 after two rounds.
