PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger made the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After a 73 (+1) in the first round, the German posted an impressive 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting with a bogey, he remained flawless afterward, scoring six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, moving up 57 places to a tie for 45th.

Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. He stands at -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Though he responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round. He dropped 40 places overall but comfortably made the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Qualities on PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka, in his return to the PGA Tour, showed his class. Following a +1 opening round, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) in round two. Three birdies, one eagle, and one bogey enabled Koepka to sneak into the weekend at -3 overall. He reflected, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the man to beat. After an outstanding 62 (-10) to start, the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong round of 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were offset by just one bogey. With a total score of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. He also set a personal best for the first 36 holes, surpassing his previous best of -15.

International Contenders in Pursuit

Joel Dahmen posted the best round of the day with a 63 (-9), including three eagles, climbing 52 spots to tie for third at -11 alongside fellow American Max McGreevy. They trail Rose (-17) and Seamus Power (-13, with a -6 day score).

Si Woo Kim continued his strong season form with a 66 (-6), residing in fifth place at -10 overall, staying within striking distance of the leaders.

Rosenmüller and Paul Miss the Cut

Thomas Rosenmüller and Jeremy Paul did not make the weekend. Paul shot an even-par round with four birdies and four bogeys, missing the cut at even par. Rosenmüller could not capitalize on a good start, following a 70 with a difficult 77 (+5), including four bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine, ending his tournament early.
