Schmid and Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid earned his spot for the weekend thanks to a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German fired a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Although Schmid started his round with a bogey, he remained error-free afterwards. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 catapulted him 57 places forward to a tie for 45th place.
Stephan Jäger also made it through to the weekend. The German stands at -4 after two rounds. A challenging stretch with three bogeys in a row on holes 6 through 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Though Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a 75 (+3). As a result, he dropped 40 places overall but remains safely inside the cut line.
Koepka Shows Comeback Qualities on the PGA Tour
Making his comeback on the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka displayed his class. After a first round of +1, the major winner improved significantly, shooting a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey enabled Koepka to make the weekend cut at -3 overall. He admitted, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose continues to set the pace. Following an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle came against only one bogey. At -17 total, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. This score already marks a personal best after 36 holes for Rose, surpassing his previous record of -15.
