PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Rose Extends Lead at Farmers Insurance Open

Schmid and Jäger make the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured his spot for the weekend with a strong second round. After an opening 73 (+1), the German fired a brilliant 67 (-5) on Friday. Although he started with a bogey, he played flawlessly thereafter, making six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 to jump 57 places up to a tie for 45th position.

Stephan Jäger also made it through to the weekend. He stands at -4 after two rounds. However, a difficult stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early on. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine led to a final round 75 (+3), dropping him 40 places though still safely inside the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class in his PGA Tour comeback. After opening with a +1 round, the major winner significantly improved, shooting a 68 (-4) on day two. His three birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey landed him a -3 total score, barely making the weekend. Koepka commented on his start: \”I think I was nervous and unsure about what to expect yesterday, but today I felt more normal.\”

Rose Pulls Away at the Top

Justin Rose remains the benchmark. After a spectacular opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). With six birdies and an eagle against a single bogey, Rose extended his lead to four strokes at -17, already celebrating a personal best after 36 holes, surpassing his previous record of -15.
