PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead at Farmers Insurance Open

Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut thanks to a strong second round. After an opening 73 (+1), the German shot a brilliant 67 (-5) on Friday. Although he started with a bogey, Schmid then played flawlessly with six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, propelling him 57 places ahead to a tie for 45th place.

Stephan Jäger also advanced to the weekend, standing at -4 after two rounds. A difficult stretch with three bogeys in a row on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Though Jäger responded with a birdie, another bogey on the back nine resulted in a 75 (+3), dropping him 40 places overall but keeping him safely in the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour

At his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class. After a +1 opening round, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on day two. Three birdies, an eagle, and just one bogey were enough for Koepka to barely make the weekend at -3 total. He commented on his start: \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure of what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”

Justin Rose remains the player to beat. Following an outstanding opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7), recording six birdies and one eagle against just one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes going into the weekend. He has already celebrated a success after 36 holes, surpassing his personal best after two rounds, which was -15.
