Schmid and Jäger make the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open; Justin Rose further extends his lead.
Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting his round with a bogey, he played error-free thereafter. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 propelled him 57 places forward to a tie for 45th.
Stephan Jäger also made it to the weekend. He sits at -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. Although Jäger responded with a birdie, another setback on the back nine led to a 75 (+3). This dropped him 40 places overall, but he comfortably made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Form on the PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class during his PGA Tour comeback. After a first round of +1, the major winner significantly improved with a 68 (-4) in round two. Three birdies, one eagle, and just one bogey helped Koepka barely secure his weekend spot at -3 overall. He commented on his start: \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unsure what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose remains the benchmark. Following an outstanding opening round 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his excellent form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were only offset by one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. He already achieved a personal milestone after 36 holes, surpassing his previous best of -15 at the midway point.
