PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Matti Schmid and Stephan Jäger secure the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to Weekend

Matti Schmid secured the cut thanks to a strong second round. After opening with a 73 (+1), the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Although starting his round with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free afterward. Six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15 catapulted him 57 places forward to a tie for 45th place.

Stephan Jäger also made the weekend cut. The German is at -4 after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm early. While Jäger bounced back with a birdie, another stroke loss on the back nine resulted in a 75 (+3) for the day. He dropped 40 places in the standings but safely made the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour

Brooks Koepka demonstrated his class in his PGA Tour comeback. After a first round of +1, the major winner improved significantly, shooting a 68 (-4) in the second round. Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey were enough for Koepka to narrowly make the weekend cut at -3 overall. Speaking about his start, he said, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unaware of what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”

Rose Extends Lead at the Top

Justin Rose remains the benchmark. After an outstanding opening round of 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were offset by just one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. He can already celebrate a success after 36 holes, surpassing his personal best of -15 after two rounds.
