PGA Tour: Two Germans Make the Cut as Justin Rose Extends Lead

Schmid and Jäger make the cut at the PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Open while Justin Rose extends his lead.

Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend

Matti Schmid secured his spot past the cut with a strong second round. After an opening 73 (+1), the German fired a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting with a bogey, Schmid birdied six holes (2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15) propelling him up 57 places to a tie for 45th.

Stephan Jäger also advanced to the weekend, standing at -4 overall after two rounds. A tough stretch with three consecutive bogeys from holes 6 to 8 disrupted his rhythm, and although he responded with a birdie, another lost stroke on the back nine led to a 75 (+3) round. He dropped 40 places but safely made the cut.

Koepka Shows Comeback Skills on PGA Tour

At his PGA Tour comeback, Brooks Koepka displayed his class. Following a first round of +1, the major winner improved with a 68 (-4) including three birdies, an eagle and one bogey, narrowly finishing the weekend cut at -3. Koepka remarked, ‘I think I was nervous and unsure yesterday, but today I felt more normal.’

Rose Pulls Ahead at the Top

Justin Rose remains the benchmark, following an outstanding opening 62 (-10) with another impressive 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle offset by just one bogey bring his total to -17, extending his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. This score beats his previous personal best of -15 after 36 holes.
