Schmid and Jäger Advance to the Weekend
Matti Schmid secured the cut with a strong second round. After a 73 (+1) opening round, the German shot a flawless 67 (-5) on Friday. Despite starting with a bogey, Schmid remained error-free and achieved six birdies on holes 2, 5, 7, 11, 13, and 15, climbing 57 spots to a tie for 45th position.
Stephan Jäger also advanced to the weekend. The German stands at -4 after two rounds. Though he faced a tough patch with three consecutive bogeys on holes 6 to 8, he replied with a birdie but ended with a 75 (+3). This dropped him 40 places overall, but he safely made the cut.
Koepka Shows Comeback Form on PGA Tour
Brooks Koepka displayed his class in his PGA Tour comeback. After a +1 first round, the major winner improved significantly with a 68 (-4) on the second day. Three birdies, an eagle, and only one bogey helped him reach the weekend at -3 overall. Koepka remarked, \”I think yesterday I was excited to play, nervous, and unaware of what to expect. Today I felt more normal.\”
Rose Pulls Away at the Top
Justin Rose continues to set the pace. After an outstanding opening 62 (-10), the Englishman confirmed his top form with another strong 65 (-7). Six birdies and an eagle were only hindered by one bogey. With a total of -17, Rose extended his lead to four strokes heading into the weekend. He already celebrated a personal best after 36 holes, surpassing his previous record of -15.
International Chasers in Position
The round of the day was played by Joel Dahmen, who shot a 63 (-9) including three eagles. He climbed 52 places to share third place at -11 with his compatriot Max McGreevy, behind Rose (-17) and Seamus Power (-13, day score -6).
