PGA Tour: Stephan Jäger Opens Top 5 at Farmers Insurance Open, Koepka Struggles

Stephan Jäger shines with an impressive 65 to rank in the top 5 at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour. Brooks Koepka faces challenges in his comeback.

Stephan Jäger delivered an outstanding start at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour with a round of 65, securing a tie for 5th place and staying close to the lead. Other German players had a tougher time. Thomas Rosenmüller posted a 2-under par round to tie for 55th, ahead of Jeremy Paul, who sits at even par tied for 87th, and Matti Schmid, who played 1-over par and is tied for 101st going into the second day. Joining Matti Schmid at T101 is LIV Golf returnee Brooks Koepka, who had some difficulties in his first tournament back on the American tour. Justin Rose holds the lead after day one, sitting at 10 under par.

PGA Tour: Stephan Jäger Nearly Flawless

Stephan Jäger achieved his best start in a while at the Farmers Insurance Open on the PGA Tour. On the North Course at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, he played an almost flawless round, with only the very beginning not going as planned. His second shot at the first hole landed in a bunker near the green, and he failed to make the up and down, resulting in a bogey to start the day. However, Jäger was not unsettled by this. On the third hole, he bounced back with a strong tee shot on the 150-meter par 3, resulting in a birdie. A particularly strong stretch during the middle of his round boosted him upward: he birdied holes 7 through 9, bringing him to 3 under par after the front nine. His birdie on hole 8 was a standout moment, as his tee shot landed in a bunker near the green, but he executed a superb sand shot that rolled straight into the hole. Maintaining momentum, the 36-year-old began the back nine with two birdies and added two more birdies on holes 16 and 17 to finish 7 under par and enter the rest of the week tied for 5th.

Thomas Rosenmüller had a quieter round, starting similarly with a single bogey. A birdie on hole 9 brought him to even par on the front nine. Additional birdies on holes 11 and 17 helped him card a 70, placing him 55th.

Jeremy Paul began his round on the back nine but struggled on the front nine, which hurt his chances. Despite three birdies and one bogey early on, three additional bogeys on holes 2, 4, and
