PGA Tour Welcomes Back Major Winner Patrick Reed from LIV Golf

Patrick Reed will return to the PGA Tour in summer 2026, announcing his departure from LIV Golf. Other players also make the switch.

Patrick Reed Returns to the PGA Tour

Nine-time PGA Tour winner Patrick Reed is making his way back to the PGA Tour from LIV Golf. After relinquishing his membership in 2022 to compete on the LIV Golf Tour, he has now offered his return to the PGA Tour.

“After careful consideration, my family and I have decided that I will no longer play on the LIV Golf Tour. I am excited to announce my return to the PGA Tour as a Past Champion for the 2027 season.” He spoke positively about his time at LIV Golf and emphasized the importance of family in his decision to return: “I enjoyed my time at LIV Golf and have become a different person through the friendships I’ve made with fellow players. Family is my priority, and playing closer to them truly matters to me. I don’t get any days back.”

His victory at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the DP World Tour also reinforced his choice. He realized how much he missed competing against others.

Details of the Comeback

Starting this summer, Reed will be eligible to compete as a non-member. The PGA Tour cited his early return, explaining that Reed gave up his membership in 2022 before any rules violations occurred due to participation in other tours. From August 25, 2026, Reed will compete in PGA Tour events under the Past Champion category. Additionally, he may improve his PGA Tour status through the DP World Tour, where he remains an Honorary Lifetime Member. Participation in FedEx Cup events in the fall will require qualification or sponsor exemptions.

Similar to the Returning Member Program used by Brooks Koepka, Reed — as a former Tour member returning to the PGA Tour — will be excluded from the Player Equity Program until 2030.

LIV Golf confirmed Reed’s departure with a statement, noting that no contract extension was reached but expressing gratitude for his commitment to the 4Aces Golf Club. They reaffirmed their support for players choosing where and when to compete and respected Reed’s decision.

Other Former LIV Players Also Return

Reed’s return is not an isolated case. Three other former LIV players are transitioning back. Kevin Na, Pat Perez, and Hudson Swafford have regained their PGA Tour memberships but still have unresolved disciplinary matters.

Perez and Swafford are eligible to compete again starting January 1, 2027, while Kevin Na’s return date is still under review by the Tour.
